20th Century Buildings

Modern Buildings can be classed as those using recent construction techniques introduced in the LC19th and commonly seen in the C20th. This can include; steel framed buildings, reinforced concrete buildings, blockwork buildings, precast or prefabricated buildings, cavity walled buildings and even 3D printed buildings. Modern buildings are usually identified stylistically and can include Edwardian, Mock Tudor, Art Deco, Brutalist, International Moderne, Daily Mail Prize Winners, Wartime buildings, British Modernism, and even Post Modern.

Planning officially started in 1948 and it is rare to record buildings later than this as historic structures, but there are modern Listings such as the Economist Building which are Listed for either being first or being exemplars. There are some beautiful buildings from the Edwardian period which were made to look much older than they are.
